Special Security Line for Children Travelers Launched at Riga Airport

At the passenger security checkpoint, Riga Airport in Latvia opened a special screening line at the beginning of the year that is only for families with children under seven years old.

Located between the current paid expedited security line and the general passenger queue, this family line is designed to accommodate customers with young children.

According to LSM, access is not restricted to people with children under the age of seven; it is also available to people who have the “Family of Honor” card, regardless of the age or presence of their children. Families with more than one kid or those with children with impairments are eligible to receive the “Family of Honor” card from the state.

There is now signage at the terminal pointing travelers toward this recently established queue arrangement, according to accounts from the local media. The Riga Airport Board Chairperson, Laila Odiņa, emphasized the airport’s dedication to becoming a family-friendly place.

Odiņa acknowledged the extra care and consideration needed when flying with kids and emphasized the airport’s commitment to making travel easier for families as a whole. She emphasized that the family line’s launch intends to speed up the security checkpoint procedure for families with young children so they can go to their flights on time.

Riga Airport recorded a record 625,000 passengers in October 2023, with 503,000 of those being direct passengers—the first time ever surpassing pre-pandemic levels. According to a media statement from the airport, October’s 503,000 direct passengers represented a three percentage point increase over the same month in 2019.

Furthermore, the total number of passengers at Riga Airport for the year as of January has surpassed the equivalent period of the previous year, with 5.7 million. But there are still obstacles in the way of Latvia’s tourism returning to pre-pandemic levels. Even with an increase in overnight stays in August 2023, the nation’s tourism numbers are still below those recorded prior to the pandemic.

August 2023 had 335,600 foreign and domestic visitors to Latvia, who together stayed in the nation’s lodging facilities for 611,100 nights. This is a 4% rise over the same month in 2022.
