In 2023, Croatia recorded 20.6 million visitors and 108 million overnight stays

Based on the eVisitor system, Croatia recorded 20.6 million arrivals and 108 million overnight stays last year. Additionally, the data shows a noteworthy 9% year-over-year increase in arrivals and a 3% increase in overnight stays in Croatia.

In contrast to 2019, the total performance in every accommodation capacity stayed consistent. In contrast to the year prior to the 2019 pandemic, commercial businesses such as hotels, campgrounds, and domestic establishments had a considerable increase in nights of 1.2 percent.
Increased stays in Istria (30 million nights, +2%), Split-Dalmatia County (20.2 million nights, +3%), and Kvarner (18.5 million nights, +1%) were among Croatia’s tourist highlights in 2023. Other counties that saw growth were Zadar, Lika-Senj, and Dubrovnik-Neretva.

With 2.5 million nights, the city of Zagreb experienced a 13% growth in the same period. With more than 2.6 million nights, the remainder of the continent also saw a 13 percent gain. Among the top destinations were Split, Rovinj, Dubrovnik, Poreč, and Umag.

Additionally, the following markets led the way in overnight stays last year:

Over 394,000 arrivals and 938,000 overnight stays were recorded in Croatia in December 2023, representing a 17 percent rise in arrivals and a ten percent increase in overnight stays over the same period in 2022. Top guest authors from Croatia, Slovenia, Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Germany, and Italy visited notable locations in December, including Zagreb, Opatija, Split, Dubrovnik, Poreč, Rovinj, and Zadar.

Additionally, the data showed that approximately 90,000 visitors spent New Year’s Eve in Croatia, a 12 percent rise over the number of visitors in 2022.

According to figures released by the Croatian National Bank (HNB), revenue from foreign tourists in the third quarter of 2023 was €9.123 billion, which represents a 7.7 percent rise over the same period in 2022—an increase of €653.3 million. The total amount of money received from foreign visitors in the first nine months of 2023 was €12.972 billion, up €1,331 billion or 11.4 percent from the same time in 2022.
