26 Jobs That Improve International Workers Prospects of Receiving a Hungarian Work Visa.

Hungary reported about 80,000 job openings at the end of the second quarter of 2023, which is 19% fewer than at the same time the previous year, according to the Hungarian Central Statistical Office (KSH). On the other hand, as of October of that same year, there were about 202,000 unemployed people.

In its Q2 2023 Labour Market Trends paper, the KSH blamed regional, occupational, and educational differences for this drop. This implies that, despite a significant unemployment rate, international workers with skills that are in demand in Hungary may have better chances of acquiring a Hungarian work visa.

The 2022 EURES Report on Shortages and Surpluses lists metalworking, construction, sales and retail, manufacturing and production, and healthcare as the main industries facing shortages in Hungary. Welders, upholsterers, travel agents, street food vendors, and other positions in the construction and medical industries are among the notable and in-demand professions.

Visa requirements apply to individuals who wish to work in Hungary; however, nationals of the European Union and the European Economic Area are exempt. Prior to applying for one of the four categories of work visas depending on their qualifications or type of employment, prospective employees must obtain a job offer.
Hungary’s Parliament passed laws creating a new class of foreign workers earlier in the year. This makes it possible for employees from non-EEA nations to live legally in Hungary for more than ninety days. Workers who meet the qualifying conditions must have proper travel documents, prove they have enough money to cover living expenses, obtain a verified place to live, and adhere to security protocols.

It is noteworthy, though, that Hungary last year declared a policy to support the domestic workforce rather than restrict job searchers by only accepting foreign workers when necessary.

According to Numbeo, a single person’s monthly living expenses in Hungary, excluding rent, are predicted to be €646.27, or 247,191.6 Hungarian Forint (Ft). The average monthly rent for a one-bedroom apartment in the city center is around €430.23 (Ft 164,559.12), while outside of the city center, it is about €337.06 (Ft 128,921.81). Rent prices vary depending on location and apartment size.

The projected monthly expenses for a family of four are €2258.85 (Ft 863,990.3), and the rent for a three-bedroom apartment in the city center is €730.15 (Ft 279,278.36), while outside of it, the rent is €564.18 (Ft 215,794.91).
